Years back I was reading the book ‘World Class in India’, and I always wondered when will be my rendezvous with these “World Class” organizations in India. They say if you really wish something, it is bound to happen to you, and this wish of mine also came true and came true in a way that was way beyond whatever I could have imagined.
Last weekend I was in Infosys Leadership Institute in Mysore, incidentally this was my first visit there, although I had been with Infosys more than three years now.
The campus spread over 350 acres is one of the best facilities I have seen anywhere in the world. It can house 4000+ people, with each of them having a more than 5 star kind of facilities; it can train all these 4000+ people at the same time. It has the self sustaining infrastructure for all the people living there. It houses a four screen multiplex, one of which is an IMAX, in the shape of a sphere, made out of glass. There is a swimming pool with tress in between, bowling alley, a superstore, a salon, a bookstore, and facilities for almost all indoor and outdoor sports. The cricket stadium there hosted the women’s world cup final.
More than what is available as facilities, what amazes me all the time is how do they maintain the campus so well, and that too all the time. And more importantly the people who are doing the maintenance are doing that with a smile on their face. You can see that they are proud of what they have created and what they are maintaining and they are proud of the awe that they on every visitor’s face. Each and every facility and the way it is managed, is defining a new standard and a new benchmark. Would like visit anymore places which are defining standards for the world.

ReplyDeleteI also heard from someone that there are bicycles everywhere and you can just use them to move from building to building.. Is that true?
ReplyDeleteYes Santosh, it is true and there cycles in thousands...infact have som epics of the cycle stand, will almost make you feel as if they were shot in a cycle show.

ReplyDeletePersonally, I admire the achievements you are talking about (and have been part of those, albeit as an almost nobody) ... but think of it ... how much can we grow with this model? Revenues: $2B Employees: 49,000. What do we need to get to $10B, 2.5 lac employees!!! Have you heard a successful company of that size?
Not demeaning the achievements ... but we need to do something else to get there - 'Defining world class in India'

This a great achievement by Infossys...But it is not enough...we Indians are becoming too self satisfied with the success we have had in the last 3-4 years...

Actually the leadership institute has been mdelled on one GE has. NRN has been an ardent admirer of this institute and this one at Mysore is a reflection of that !

ReplyDeletePranav, Why is there a need to be the biggest? What is there in this number game? Are we not getting too influenced by Americans, by reducing everything to mere numbers, be it the happiness on the face of a worker or the satisfaction ratings. If you read, rather than anything else I am talking about the pride on the face of everyone working there or anyone who is a part of that place. I do not see any need to chase numbers mechanically like western countries. I would rather have small close knit companies than 2-3 big monopolistic companies in the country / world.

Hmm. World class might just be redefined. I don't think there has been a better time to be in the IT industry in India.

When i left my sister there i don't feel good. There is a huge line becoz of seccurity and things are very complicate.Basically things are made for your comfort and you are not made for these things. Things looks good but may not be good.
