One of the good things that I did in Houston was to start watching movies, have never been too much of a movie person. Saw 40+ movies, courtesy the local library, Netflix, resourceful colleagues and Internet. Here is the list of movies I watched:

The ones that stand out in my memory are Osama, a very sensitive portrayal of a sensitive issue and beautifully shot. Leila, again very sensitive movie, shows the culture of Iran and it is amazing to see the actress portraying every emotion and feeling by just her face as that is the only visible part and you realize the power of facial expressions. Chocolat , just loved this movie. Brush with faith, a journey of a painting over centuries and the fate of people who owned and protected it.
Hope I am able to watch even a fraction of the movies here in India.

Osama is a good movie; but I felt that it was overhyped given the time it was released. I felt it was much tame and took a safe route in comparison to some of the great movies from the Iranian school (Siddiq Barmak was trained in Iran). If you can, try to catch hold of movies by Abbas Kiorastami, Mohsen and Samira Makhmalbaf, Bahman Ghobadi and Majid Majidi. Kiorastami's "A Taste of Cherry", Ghobadi's "Turtles can Fly" and Farroukh Farroukhazad's "The House is Black" are must watch.
