WOW: Pink Evening

Long time back I had written about Niche Professionals, and I had written about Sumitra, who is the lady behind WOW which stands for Women on Wanderlust. I have been talking to her for years now, but got to meet her today on a meet she organized for all the friends she made during her journey of WOW. Now, what struck me most about this evening was the pink dress code.

There were 35-40 women and most of them were dressed in Pink. There were all kinds of Pinks: shocking pink, baby pink, rose pink, carnation pink, fuchsia pink, pastel pink, carrot pink, coral pink, salmon pink, dull pink, magenta pink, lavender pink, light pink, medium pink, dark pink, deep pink, ultra pink, hot pink, cool pink and just pink. Pink came most prominently in form of flowing sarees, with pink flowers, with loud pink borders, plain ones in pink color. And them of course there were non-sari wearing women like me, but they all still wore pink salwar kameezes, dupattas, tops, skirts and some just threw a pink scarf around their neck. Everyone was in the spirit of pink. They even had a small gift for each guest and it too came in a small pink pouch. All these shapes and shades of pink created one of the most the vibrant environments I have ever been in. Of course, being a women only event, the color also added its own bit of feminine effervescence to the whole ambience.

The pink united everyone in a single color, and each shade of it presented the inherent diversity. Are we not like this always in life, united at a level and having our own diversity within that?
