UNESCO lists monuments and natural reserves of heritage value as UNESCO world heritage sites and contributes towards upkeep of these places.
India is home to 30 UNESCO listed sites, spread across the country - right from Delhi, Agra & Jaipur in the North to Kaziranga in the East to Chola temples in the South and Old Goa churches in the west. GoUnesco challenge was created by a young professional and a travel enthusiast Ajay Reddy who asked his friends to take a challenge of visiting all world heritage sites in one calendar year last year i.e. 2012. At the beginning of 2012 there were 28 sites in India, western ghats got included last year and 6 forts of Rajasthan got included this year. Surprisingly, many people took part in the challenge and one person even completed it.
Jai Bharti the winner of GoUNESCO challenge is the first and only known person to have visited all world heritage sites in the country in one calendar year. She admits that at the beginning of the challenge she had no idea that she is going to see such beautiful heritage around the country. As she kept going she started relishing the challenge and is today a proud favorite of the media that loves to tell her story.
